Threave House, Castle Douglas
Opened to visitors for the first time.
As Regional Director I planned and coordinated this relatively small but nevertheless complex project to repatriate the contents of the house, which had been dispersed throughout the NTS portfolio. This along with the completion of significant roof and masonry repairs allowed for the opening up of the principle public rooms and bedrooms for the first time with visitors booking guided tours. This was seen as an added attraction to visitors to the much-admired Threave Gardens and wider estate. Budget constraints however would not permit the taking on of paid staff as guides so I spearheaded the search for volunteers to take on the role. Out with public visiting times the house is available for hospitality functions, adding a successful new revenue stream to the property budget.
